Education is the key that opens the door to a better future. But for many children in Buntong’s underprivileged community, that door has often remained locked. Some children had no choice but to leave school, stepping into adulthood too soon in order to help support their families. Dreams were paused, and classrooms were replaced with hard labour.
That’s why the Good Shepherd Education Fund (GSEF) was created to lift the financial burden from families and give these children a fighting chance to stay in school. This fund isn’t just about paying fees; it’s about restoring hope and giving each child the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.
Our journey, however, was not without its struggles. There were times when getting updates on the children’s progress felt like chasing shadows. Some families were hard to reach, and teachers were sometimes too overwhelmed to respond promptly. Yet through every challenge, we held on because we knew the value of what we were fighting for.
And then came the moments that reminded us why we never gave up.
During our home visits, we saw beyond the names on our lists, families enduring hardship, yet filled with sincere gratitude. Parents spoke with deep appreciation, sharing how much the education fund meant to their children’s future. One mother, with a warm smile, came to our centre and said, “Thank you for helping my child complete her Form 5.”
One moment that will stay with us forever was when a student, now a proud SPM graduate, looked at us and said, “Thank you so much for providing this education fund. Because of it, I was able to go to school and complete my Form 5.” That single sentence held the weight of years filled with quiet determination, sacrifices, and unspoken courage.
In our recent follow-ups with past beneficiaries, our hearts were full as we saw not just students who had stayed in school, but young people who had excelled achieving results that reflected their strength and resilience.
Again and again, we hold on to this truth: “One person is of more value than the whole world.” That’s why every child matters, every effort shines, and every triumph is a story of hope. Every child we help is not just a number, they are someone’s whole world. And with every success story, we are reminded that our mission matters.
Gratitude goes out to the generous benefactors whose kindness has made a lasting impact. With continued support, many more children will have the opportunity to unlock their potential and build a brighter future. Together, this journey of hope and transformation can continue.

Commited to reaching out with compassion and respect, empowering each person to wholeness and full potential.
